The holiday season will soon be upon us, with all the joy (and stress) that it brings. As you plan your winter gift-giving, consider whether you can incorporate any of your medieval skills into the gifts β your fellow SCAdians will appreciate it and itβs never a bad thing to leak the geek onto others who might enjoy our game, too. Super double bonus points if your endeavors can be used as groundwork for an entry into the Kingdom Arts and Sciences Competition!
Speaking of the Kingdom Arts and Sciences Competition, it is usually held the second week of February and the details of the event should be announced soon, if they have not already been. Whether you are able to incorporate those plans into your other winter crafting, now is the time to begin (or continue!) your preparations. The signups for entrants and judges will be available on the event site and the deadline for signing up is usually a month before the event, so plan ahead. I strongly encourage everyone who enters to also serve as a judge β it provides the opportunity for you to see the process from both sides of the table and to get an in-depth view of the work of a fellow artisan. If you have not judged before, never fear β you can sign up as a student judge! Materials on judging expectations will be provided in advance and you will be paired with experienced co-judges.
