April Missive

Greetings unto the populace!

I have been pleased to have the assistance of a number of folks as I transition into this role. Several have been serving in their roles for a long time and are ready to move on to other tasks within the Kingdom. I, therefore, need to ask you all to consider if you might be willing to step in and help:
• Duchess Anne has been handling both Book Reviews and Warrants for several years. She has asked to be replaced no later than May. I believe that, although both tasks are related, they require enough work to spread them out between people. I am therefore seeking a person to serve as my Book Review Deputy. Their job would first be to track which groups need to have a book review done, either because 2 years have passed since the last review, or because a new Exchequer has stepped up. This person would contact the groups, arrange a date when they can meet with the reviewers (preferably at an event where both plan to attend), arrange for qualified reviewers to handle the review (Anne did a number of them herself, but we hope to recruit more reviewers), and track the paperwork before and after the review is completed. Anne says she thinks of this as a project management position, but it really requires someone who has been an Exchequer, and has been through a review.
• I need an Emergency Deputy who would be willing to step into my role if something should happen to me. I will walk them through the reporting process, but really will not expect them to have many duties relating to reporting. I would like them to take on the role of tracking warrants. As each new local Exchequer or Deputy Exchequer is proposed, they would review addresses for signatories to be sure that nobody shares a household, will let me know when they are satisfied that that requirement is met, and will contact the webministers to update the list of warrants when a new Exchequer is approved. Maintaining the warrants list would mean that my Deputy would already be familiar with who is serving in the local branches should something happen and they need to step into my role.
• THL Riva of Blackstone, my Eastern Regional Deputy, is feeling over-extended with her work and involvement with this and another non-profit group; and is looking for someone to replace her. The Regional Deputy’s job is to collect required reporting information from the local groups in their region, post it to the Kingdom’s SharePoint, and let me know what is late or missing. In addition, they help the local group Exchequers if they have issues in filling out reports. If there are questions they can’t answer, they send them on to me. The position doesn’t necessarily require that you have been an Exchequer previously, but the experience would be helpful, along with a good understanding of how an Excel spreadsheet works.
• We continue to look for a Western Regional Deputy as well but, with luck, by the time this issue posts, we’ll have found someone.

If you are interested in any of these positions, please contact me for more information. If you wish to apply, please send an email to me (exchequer@northshield.org), their Majesties (trm@northshield.org), and the Kingdom Seneschal (seneschal@northshield.org). Give us a bit of information about yourself – how long have you been in the SCA, offices held, event activity, etc., any mundane experiences that might help you in the role, and why you want to take on this role. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
