The Kingdom Chirurgeon must fulfill the requirements to be a Chirurgeon just as any other Chirurgeon would. This means that they have had to been trained in SCA-specific knowledge; be at least 18 years of age (age of majority of all states & provinces within Northshield); possess a current first-aid certification or acceptable alternative; possess a current CPR certification; be a member of the SCA; and have access to the Northwatch at their residence.
The Kingdom Chirurgeon is a Great Officer of the Kingdom and a member of the Stallari Council. They are warranted for two years initially by the Crown and the Society Chirurgeon at the time of their appointment. They can also be removed by the Crown or Society Chirurgeon with due process if needed before the end of their term. They can apply for an extension to their term if they feel it necessary.
The duties of the Kingdom Chirurgeon include but are not limited to: maintenance of the reports, correspondence, and paperwork as required by Society; submission of quarterly/year-end reports to the Crown and their Stallari Council and the Society Chirurgeon as required; oversight of the training of all levels of Chirurgeons within the Kingdom; providing warrant lists to the Crown for signature each Coronation; creation of such deputies as they need to help make their job more efficient which can include but is not limited to an Emergency Deputy, Regional Deputies, and Chief Waterbearer; maintain a good communication system with their deputies and all levels of the chirurgeonate within the Kingdom.
