I am Wilhelm zu Eltz-Kempenich, a younger son to a powerful local ruler in the jointly held Ganerbenburg of Castle Eltz in the year 1336. As a younger son, my primary role is to serve my father and the region as a soldier. Until just recently, my home was under siege for five years by Baldwin of Luxembourg, the archbishop of Trier who was seeking to expand his influence as an electorate to the seat of the Holy Roman Empire. Now that the siege is lifted and my services are no longer directly required, my endeavors have led me to serve as a mercenary soldier.
I until recently resided in the home of my extended family, Castle Eltz, in the hills of the Mosel River region of south-western Germany in a strategic position along a major trade route.
