As is customary in our kingdom, rules for a Crown Tournament are published early in order to have ample time for those who seek the throne to meet all special conditions and submit letters of intent. We have published on the internet and had some conversations surrounding expectations; however, as our official publication in the newsletter, these are our rules and format for Crown 37.
Letters of Intent are due in hand by Coronation by email, mail, or hand-delivery.
Special request for this tournament:
If you are not a royal peer, we encourage you take the opportunity to participate in person for either Guenievre’s and Tom’s reign or Mary’s and Lars’ heirship and reflect on it in your letter of intent. Please write of your experience and thoughts on how you would reign in your letter.
Standard Kingdom requirements apply. Please see Northshield Law III-900 for further detail.
You must affirm that you and your prospective consort have read the Corpora of the Society for Creative Anachronism and the laws of the Kingdom of Northshield, read and understand the Rules of the Lists, and the conventions of combat of the Kingdom of Northshield.
Entrants must be suitable to the Crown.
Tournament Format:
Bring your best. All tourney weapons are allowed. May change weapons prior to any bout you wish.
Pool tourney.
• <= 8 people in the tournament: 1 pool, top 4 advance.
• 9 - 16 people in the tournament: 2 pools, top 2 from each pool advance.
• > 16 people: 4 pools, top 1 advances from each pool.
Ties are broken by the match that occurred between the fighters in the pool. Any multi-way mutually destructive ties will be re-fought.
Top 4 enter standard double elimination.
• First round: 1 bout.
• Second round: Lower bracket must win
2 out of 3, upper bracket need only win
1 out of 3.
• Finals: best 2 out of 3.
A final note from Princess Mary: Crown, to me, is the tournament to show everyone your chivalry, how skilled you are, and how you can work with the eyes of the Kingdom on you. It isn’t just a tournament for the top 10 fighters in the Kingdom. So, it would please me greatly to see participation far and wide.
