Greetings all who walk these halls-
As many of you know I have just stepped up into the job of Northshield's Chronicler and will be taking over the job of editing the Northwatch with the March issue. I am starting to work on ideas to make the newsletter something that is more identifiably from the people of Northshield. Not just the letters from our Royal Family or the officers. Not just event announcements or officer lists. But something more of the talented gentles that inhabit our fine Kingdom. Obviously, there are space limitations to keep the costs under control but there will always be a place for original artwork in the form of cover art, marginals that can fill space, borders, lines, pictures, etc., and I do hope that I can build a library of original art that I can use as needed. I am approaching artists that I know to ask for submissions but please know and pass the word that if you are an artist or know an artist that you (or they) can contact me diretly at
chronicler@northshield.org to submit artwork for publication.
That being said, I am hereby announcing a contest. Design a Namplate for the Northwatch. I would like to do is to come up with a "
Nameplate" that will distinguish all of the Northwatches for the next couple of years while I am editor. The banner on the front of a newsletter that identifies the publication is its
nameplate. The
nameplate usually contains the name of the newsletter, possibly graphics or a logo, and perhaps a subtitle, motto, and publication information including Volume and Issue or Date. The publication information I can handle through the publishing program but the rest of it is what I am looking for.
The
nameplate needs to say NORTHWATCH in a large readable hand and contain something that says "Newsletter for the Kingdom of Northshield" and could include the motto "Ducere Ministrare Illuminare" or not. It can include either or both of our populace badges (either the compass rose or the griffin) and has to look good in a single colour on a while background.
Judges will include AEsa Drottning, HRH Ailleanne and myself. Winner gets to see their work on the front of the Northwatch for the next two years and the runners up will get a token of my appreciation for entering.
Deadline for entries is February 1. Please send entry to me electronically if possible at
chronicler@northshield.org (hard copies are okay since I can scan things but electronic will be easier for me).
