September Missive

Greetings!

I hope everyone enjoyed the brief period in which all of the dates on the website were listed in German. Totally intentional. We totally did it on purpose in honor of His Majesty's persona. Totally. Absolutely. Not really. But it's fixed now.

I made a recent change to the website that I thought I would point out. It's not a large change, just one I felt like mentioning.

If you navigate to the Who's Who menu on the site you will see, among other things, links to the Peers pages. These are lists of the peers of Northshield, set up as stallplates, and clicking on a stallplate will take you to details about the individual. (We borrowed the idea for the stallplates from the Middle Kingdom, in case you wondered.) On each of these pages (for instance, the Royal Peers list at http://www. northshield.org/OrderOfPrecedence/RoyalPeers.aspx) you'll notice that the list is divided into two sections: Active and Inactive. (Just to pre-empt the question, this is a list of all of the Royal Peers *in* Northshield; it is our tradition to replicate an individual's Order of Precedence on our website if they request it. So you may see names you don't recognize.)

There was some debate on some peerage lists about the definition of Active versus Inactive. Is a person considered inactive when they move out of Northshield? What if they move out of Northshield but continue to be active whereever they are? What if they move, but still consider themselves part of Northshield, and make an effort to attend events in the Kingdom so often that most people don't know that they've moved at all? What if they stop playing in the SCA altogether? What if they pass away? For purposes of the website, we added a line of clarification: Inactive means that they are no longer active in the Kingdom of Northshield for whatever reason. This is not necessarily an indication that they are no longer active in the SCA.

Hopefully that clears up the confusion.

In service,

Abelard

Obligatory message: My mama always said the website was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. Today, it's a melted puddle of goo in the back seat of the car which is the internet.
